Corrupted Mera

This piece technically took the longest to complete out of all my artworks, as I had forgotten about it for several months before finally coming back to it.

One of my favourite characters of mine is a Larimar named Mera. In a Steven Universe-esque way, Mera is a Gem. Gems in Steven Universe are an alien race whose forms are made of light, but their consciousness is held inside a gemstone, and that is how they are made: forming underground until they emerge. Steven Universe has garnered much acclaim, and on the site ROBLOX, there is a “fan game” that goes by the name of Gem Galaxies. I used to play this game quite often, and so using a Larimar from Gem Galaxies as the base, I made a Larimar character.

Gems in Steven Universe are able to corrupt, or become a monstrous version of themselves if they crack under too much psychological pressure. This concept was quite interesting to me, so I decided to create and draw a corrupted form for Mera, using a jellyfish motif.
